What does political action mean to a Union member?

Backing policies and people that push for workers’ rights is only a small part of the political involvement of a UBC member. Being active in your own community, Local, and Council will help keep your interests at the forefront of change.

Attend Union Meetings

Monthly meetings are an important aspect of staying involved in the goings-on of your Local Union and the members that it consists of. You can learn about new jobs on the horizon, financial activities of the Local, and questions or concerns that you might not realize are shared with others.

Understand the Collective Agreement

Getting a grasp on your rights and responsibilities at work is one of your most valuable tools. The Collective Agreement is there to protect you and all workers. Getting to know the ins and outs is in your best interest!

Vote

Not only for political candidates who align with your beliefs, but also for Union officers. Your representatives need to have your future in mind. Your say matters!

SIB Involvement

The UBC encourages all its members to be engaged and active participants in politics. The smallest steps can lead to big changes.

Sisters in the Brotherhood is an important part of the transformation the UBC is trying to make in the construction industry. Championing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility is the way towards a healthier, more representative Union.

Sisters’ voices are vital in pushing forward. Having SIB volunteers, representatives, and activists in all aspects of governing – political, nonpartisan, and union – can only help bolster support and awareness of our causes.

The Union pursues inclusive and nonpartisan efforts to support policies and candidates who champion the goals of working people, promote needed infrastructure investments, and support fair trade.
